Until recently, at the end of August this year, representatives of Donbass self-proclaimed republics announced the postponement of the "elections" scheduled for this November. At that time, RBK, referring to a source close to the Kremlin, wrote, that the "elections" in Donbass's self-proclaimed republics have been postponed after Moscow's order. This decision chronologically coincided with the end of negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on August 18 this year. According to Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, during these talks, Merkel has expressed concern over the "unclear extension of the [Ukrainian] law on the special status of Donbass, which is an essential element of the Minsk agreement". However, Moscow currently, in view of Zakharchenk's murder, has changed its original plans and decided on the need for "organizing" the elections.
